American nostalgia often incorporates jewelry featuring astrological signs. These birth signs, similar to birthday gems associated with a specific month have offered us a sense of identity and a bit of exotica from outside the main stream.
Sloan & Co., an American jewelry manufacturing house presented a series of astrologically marked items to the populace of the early years of the twentieth century.
Perfect for a birthday gift, this 14k yellow gold double box photo locket is beautifully appointed with a high relief frieze of the Zodiac sign for Aries, traditionally encompassing the dates of March 21 through April 19. The image of the head of a ram and a symbol of its curving horns represent this sign.
At the bottom is a bunch of hops, the foliate associated with Aries, grows with abandon and wends its tendrils up and around the perimeter of the design. Just like the personality traits associated with this sign.
To the interior a pair of compartments with rims and covers offer space for a photograph or two.
