Indescribably exquisite, this luminous blue moonstone fringe necklace is unequaled. Without exception, inspiration for this superb example of Art Nouveau is grounded in the natural environment and clearly defines what the sensual movement of the style personifies.
The finest of blue flash moonstones exhibits their adularescence with every imperceptible movement. These gemstones simply glow in almost all lighting situations.
Twenty-two round and oval cabochons come together in this masterfully crafted choker necklace. With over 14 carats of moonstones, each is set in a 15k gold bezel.
Three delicate motifs add to the symbolism and artistry of the necklace. Scallop shells, lover's knots and tiny basket shapes are crafted in gold. Between the seven fringe elements are placed the scallops. The chain's center is dotted with basket shapes. Lastly, the ends of the chain cradle lover's knots between their oval links.
All the moonstones glow with a stunning blue metallic sheen that shimmers across the surface of each gem in perfect counterpoint to the bright, rich gold.
Historical Note: The style of Art Nouveau was more a philosophical than an artistic reaction to the rapid urbanization of America and Europe due to the Industrial Revolution, which occurred from the later 18th century onward.
Along with style, the focus broadened to include semi-precious gemstones such as amethyst, natural pearls, moonstones, opals, and other less costly gemstones. Organic forms and femininity went hand in hand with the period's aesthetics.
