Here is a circa early 1900s brooch displaying Art Nouveau and Edwardian elements. A delicate appearing realistic butterfly motif is rendered in 18k yellow gold over 10k yellow. The symmetry of the composition creates a harmonious balance of elements.
Airy spaces and Edwardian elegance translate that open work into perceived fragility. A pair of natural rubies transform into butterfly eyes as coils of gold wire spirals outline proportional wings.
Blue moonstones create that ethereal essence so ensconced in the jewelry of the time. In all, twenty-two blue moonstones, total weight of 3.6 carats take on the form of the body of the flying insect as well as emulating the colored scales of the wings.
These exceptionally fine moonstones glow with that so-desired iridescence – the gems literally radiate from afar. Truly a jewel that stands out well beyond the average, you won't find any moonstones finer - nor could you find them at all today.
