Illustrated in this charming small seal fob or pendant, the base is a carved carnelian intaglio showing Eros or Cupid, holding aloft the flaming torch of love and love's arrow. Strolling along, he kicks a globe or the earth to represent this aphorism.
The fob itself was created in yellow gold over metal that is deeply embossed with flowers, leaves and curling motifs. Rococo in flavor, the metal work is lyrical and ornate. The carving is fine and precise with the details still crisp and fine.
Originally meant to be used as a seal to impress in hot wax and secure a letter, today it can be worn singly or in groups on a chain at the neck.
