How very unusual this Victorian-era fob is! The seal contains three bands, one containing two moles, a center band with Chequy, or checkerboard pattern, and a third band with another mole, all hand-carved into a rich carnelian.
Set into an impressive, four-armed pendant of 10k yellow gold, the pattern is crisp and clear. It's large in size, and its that much more special for its near-immaculate condition.
Letter writing was the email of the day during the 19th century (and prior). Sometimes people wrote to each other 2 or more times a day. And to secure that letter, this seal was created in gold and agate. A drop of melted candle wax, a press of the fob—the letter is sealed for the reader's eyes only!
Several family names are associated with this charming mammal, including Twistelon, Isley, Molle and more.
Who doesn't love a little, furry mole?
