What stories this jewel could tell...if only it could. From that eye, what intrigues has it beheld, what dramas, spectacles, celebrations, or heartaches has it witnessed?
Breathtaking and authentic, this lover's eye brooch, with pendant fitting, has just been released from an important private collection.
Originally it was purchased from The Three Graces in 2003 (we were established less than one year earlier), by one of our top collectors, and it is as luminous as the time of its creation.
The rare brooch is so special, not only for its realistic and finely painted eye, but additionally for its stunning gem-set brooch. Guaranteed as authentic, one look will tell you its sublime aesthetics are nothing if not perfect.
The eye, hand painted in watercolor, is sublime and so realistic it is almost uncanny. A true artist painted this, likely with brushes of a single hair or two. Note the rounding of the eye, the pale auburn arched brow, and the suggestions of the contours of the anatomy that are so well portrayed. The artist was truly gifted.
The eye is set in a classically Georgian brooch surrounded by a ring of natural half-seed pearls, 28 in all. Vibrant fuchsia and plum hues glitter from every angle of the perimeter - rhodolite garnets. Fourteen garnets are set with foiling beneath within closed backs to enhance their pink and purple brilliance.
They are set in a collet mount of rose gold. The reverse and setting are in 9k rose gold, and reveal the original C clasp and pin. There is also a tiny loop used to attach a safety chain and pin, this is provided with your purchase.
This loop was perhaps repaired or added long ago, after the origins of the brooch.
The mystery and personality of these objects are a rare delight to behold, wear and admire.
Note: The former caretaker had a gold slide on/off fitting designed to wear this as a pendant without altering the original brooch.
