An angel will guard your secrets...for this exceptional Georgian enamel ring holds a hidden compartment.
Dating to circa 1830-40, the ring's top has been engraved and hand-painted in polychrome enamels. A winged angel or cherub soars in the air carrying a garland of leaves and two flowers, one rose pink and one sky blue.
Delicate colors move from flesh to snowy white, and baby blue, to deeper hues of sienna, and forest green. This chubby angel has even been painted with tiny fingernails, blush cheeks, and toes.
The right side of the ring lifts to cover to reveal the inner compartment.
Repoussé work on both shoulders enhances the central curved panel with volutes, scrolls, and raised Rococo details. The ring tests at 18k for the top, and 14k for the shank.
Rare and fine, this amazing reminder of 180 years ago is calling to its next caretaker.
Note: Due to its great age and enamel work, this is not recommended for an engagement ring or daily wear. It is fine for occasional use.
