History as depicted in portraiture and paintings is replete with examples of rings worn on every finger, stacked, held on by a string, and even worn on the ends of our most nimble digits.
Crated of 18k yellow gold repousee in the tradition of the earlier decades of the 19th century, as well as silver and magical table cut diamond, comes this remarkable ring.
Why remarkable? First, for its size, for it is small. It may have been custom-made for a royal or important child. Another is that it may have been worn on the end of a finger (see photos). For centuries, portraiture shows us notables wearing rings on the fingers' ends and every other possible way to wear a ring.
In fact, this antique ring comes from the owner's collection, where she wore it between her fingernail and the first joint of her ring finger.
The utilization of a table-cut diamond is rare for this period. Possibly it was refashioned from a family jewel of an earlier time. The ring is 18k yellow gold with deeply worked floral motifs for the shoulders, sides, and base of the center.
The diamond is set into a cut down, crimpled silver setting. Thus is ideal to wear on a chain or at the tips of the fingers.
