A classic example of mid-19th century American jewelry, these gold and black enamel tracery earrings are a marvel of texture and design.

Floral themed and created in two parts, these antique earrings blend pale rose gold, fine black enamel, curlicues and scrolls of more gold.
The surmount is a fan shape with a fleur de lis top, flowers stamped to the vertical elements, textured surfaces and thin ebony enamel.
The oval drop balances pebbled texture to the surfaces with tiny flowers and designs inlaid in the most delicate of enamel channels. All 14k gold, the ear wires are shepherd's hooks with clasps to secure them.
Note: Taille d'epargne is an enamel technique where very fine channels are created in metal and filled with enamel, often opaque black. This method creates subtle design details and was favored in the US during the mid and later part of the 19th century.
