Its fern-like, lacy internal structures seem as if they are growing and taking shape before your very eyes. Against an almost clear translucent background, gray, black and brown images could easily be mistaken for pressed ferns and foliage. But in reality, they are part of the natural structure of the stone.
A Rorschach test in an intriguing tableau, a miniature garden "grows" on your finger. In 10k yellow gold, the 13 x 10 mm flat cabochon of moss agate is set within a simple bezel of gold.
The shoulders are decorated each with two whorls of hand engraved patterns that segue to a plain, tapered shank. Circa 1880, this use of moss agate in jewelry is a tradition that was carried forward from the 18th century and was revived in the later Victorian years.
