Certainly one of the finest seals The Three Graces' has ever offered. It is similar to a rebus, where there is a mix of words and pictures to represent a word. in this case, there is a saying with an evocative carved image to illustrate the point.
Dating to circa 1830, this English fob seal was meticulously carved in amethyst and crafted in 18k yellow gold. It has three separate seal surfaces and the entire gemstone rotates or spins.
All sentiments are in French, even though this is English in origin. This isn't that uncommon with some jewelry fobs during the Georgian period.
The first reads "La liberté me rend fidèle" translated to "Freedom makes me faithful". Below this is a depiction of a bird cage with an open door, the bird rests just at the edge about to fly out.
The second seal is carved with the saying, "Je demeure ou je m'attache" meaning, "I stay where I am attached". There is a tree with spreading branches and a clinging vine wrapped around it.
The final and third seal has the words, "Si te le perdu je suis perdu" carved into it. Or in English its meaning is, "If i lost you, I am lost". Its poetic scene is a cherub chasing a winged heart that is flying away.
The 15k gold case is typical of the English with deeply worked flowers and scrolls. Wear it solo or grouped with other charms and pendants.
