Moonstones have a life and a look of their own. Some of them look one way, and almost magically appear clear when on the finger.
Some don't change, others look darker or deeper in color, whether off or on. This alluring one is definitely light gray with hints of blue in certain lights, yet is the same when worn or when admiring it from afar.
At 6 mm in diameter, .75 or 3/4 of a carat, this cabochon exhibits a strong ice white stripe or cat's eye as you turn it.
It is bezel set in 15k yellow gold with an unusual curvilinear gold to the gallery.
In memory of Margaret Barry, the interior of the shank is hand-engraved in script with her name and, died, May 13th, 1857.
But...the shank has been married to the top. Both are antique, and both are tested 15k yellow gold. In fact, we defy you to see how or where the joining of the two was done.
Why does this occur? You can imagine the wear this ring has seen over its lifetime. Shanks or bands often receive the most wear and tear. Sometimes the tops of rings get marred or damaged beyond repair. Thankfully, the top was lovingly restored and seamlessly blended with the band of another ring.
