No monkeying around ... ugh, did we really write that? Sometimes you just can't help a bad pun.
Ok, Victorian circa 1880, sterling silver, double paneled brooch with a rose gold monkey (an unusual motif, not your average cute doggie) on a tree branch. In yellow gold, rests a bird (kingfisher?) on a stem, and beneath a rose gold flitting butterfly.
Please note that this type of Victorian silver work with gold accents utilizes a technique of gold over silver, not solid gold.
Expressive hand engraving defines the foliage. It retains its original tube hinge and pin stem (base metal for strength) and has a later silver "C" clasp.
